 | Subject: Far Cry 2 Map editor leaves Halo 3's forge in its dust. Wed Aug 20, 2008 9:06 am | |
| I know I reported yesterday that I saw the coolest trialer, well I think I may have found a new one, this one just dropped my jaw, i could not believe it. I want this game so bad | Quote: | Halo 3 has recently won the edge award for innovation thanks to its Forge (Item Editor) and Replay editor. For the last year, forge has allowed us to interact with the Xbox 360 like never before to create an almost infinite amount of map variations. This year, this is set to change completely.
Halo 3’s forge has been built for a specific purpose, to allow the user to create and share an infinite amount of map variations. You are able to use the editor to create and move physical objects such as; weapons, vehicles, walls, barriers and a few hundred other miscellaneous objects. While Halo 3 only limits you to changing the object locations you are able to create some pretty awesome and unique maps.
Ubisoft have just released a video of their map editor for Far Cry 2 which can only be describes as jaw dropping and even then, jaw dropping only describes 10% of what you are feeling after viewing it. Up until now Halo 3 has been the only game to include a powerful map editor which allows the community to create and share all of their creations, but this will all end when Far Cry 2 launches, leaving Halo 3 falling to its knees in the envy of the Far Cry 2 Map Editor.
You might be thinking, why I am comparing a map editor which will most likely be found on a PC to an Xbox 360 map editor? Well as you can see from the video, the map editor is actually running on the Xbox 360, which is very impressive.
Far Cry 2 allows users to not only to edit objects in the map like Halo 3, but allows you to completely change the terrain which puts the whole experience into the user’s hands. You can add mountains, rivers, alter the density of your forest and even change the time of day. The time of day option isn’t just a night, day and noon option, it covers every single position the sun appears in during the day, changing the overall brightness of the map and all the lighting effects to go with it.
There are over a thousand objects in the Far Cry 2 map editor, including landscape objects such as bridges, houses and watch towers, a good twenty or so unique vehicles, a huge array of weapons and explosives and last but not least an impressive, almost endless amount of miscellaneous objects.
With a slick and very clean interface, Far Cry 2 not only expands on Halo 3’s Forge editor by adding more objects to your inventory, but leaves it behind with the inclusion of its breathtaking terrain editor. With a map editor of this depth, you have an endless amount of possible maps to create, which are only limited by your own artistic abilities.
While we have only just scratched the surface of Far Cry 2’s map editor, there is a lot more in terms of gameplay Far Cry 2 has to offer. Don’t like the forest you just created? Well burn it down and watch the fire spread with Far Cry 2’s amazing engine. With this extraordinary engine that Far Cry 2 packs I cannot wait to see this in action and will definitely be empting my pockets to pay for a high spec PC. With even the Xbox 360 version looking amazing and having the depth of the editor it currently has, maybe we will see Far Cry 2 take out next year’s Edge for Innovation award instead of Bungie’s Halo 3.
Well, after reading through all of this, I’m sure you must be excited if you aren’t I can’t do anything about that, but before you go I suggest you check out the video of the map editor in action. |
Video
The link will take you to the video, I hope everyone on these forums gets this game, so we can make maps and give them to each other and play on them. When I saw this video, i was in awe, it is just so cool looking, this is a definite buy for me._________________ "Forgive me, Sir...It was an Honor" - R2 |
